Taking the Journey Online: Creating e-Portfolios for the Odyssey Freshman Academy at New Hanover High School
Description of project:
Technology change: Enhance student learning in the Odyssey Freshman Academy by adopting a technology tool that enables students to create multimedia products, electronically communicate with their mentors, teachers and community professionals, and work collaboratively with their core teachers and peers while simultaneously creating a detailed record of their high school careers online.
Activity 3: Identify a Change Model
Work with your project team to identify a change model that best fit the organization that you have selected to implement a technology change. The change model that you select should be appropriate for the social and behavioral characteristics of the organization. In addition, the change model should allow the change management team to successfullyimplement the proposed technology change. Review the following models and others that you find and then select a model. You do not need to submit your team's response to the activity. Once you made your decision as a team post your decision and your model in your Team's Discussion Area.
improvisational model:
2 assumptions: changes assoc. w tech constitute ongoing process rather than an event w/ endpoint
various tech/ org changes that are made cannot be anticipated ahead of time.
Based on that 3 types:Change is...
1. anticipated
2. emergent--spontaneously
3. opportunity based--in response to an unexpected opportunity or event
This new Freshman Odyssey gives us an opportunity to introduce change. Changes made during the process cannot be anticipated
stage theory of behavior change(kind of like a freshman entering H.S.)
1. precontemplation- no intention of change
2. contemplation-people are aware taht a problem exists seriously considering taking some action
3. preparation-involves intention to change and some behavior (minor) with limited success
4. action-modify behavior, experience or environment in order to meet goals
5. maintenance-people work to prevent relapse
Unfreeze/Change/Refreeze: un-get the org. receptive to change (feedback survey, etc. LISTEN&INCLUDE) change- propose the solution, get people to do it, learn new skills, re- make this a permanent part of the org. [THIS WILL NEVER WORK IN A H.S.]
Satir Change Model**
Status Quo-Paper low tech.
Foreign Element- Principal says, save paper
Chaos- Everyone creates their own plan
Transforming Idea- ePortfolios for Freshmen create a four-year plan
Practice & Integration- AFTER the proposal
New Status Quo- by 2016 entire school is paperless
